What was unique about this home, and trip to the Keys, was the family of manatees that would greet us every morning and evening. While cleaning our boat after one of our fishing trips, I discovered that the manatees loved the fresh water from the hose. Who would have thought? I was in shock when they grabbed the hose and began drinking from the hose like they were drinking from a straw. It was mind blowing and very cute. They played together, doing belly rolls, hugging one another and even kissed each other. This was the first time in my life that I had ever been so up-close and personal with a manatee. They are gentle giants, so trusting and kind.
What was heart breaking for this boater-at-heart, were the propeller scars on all seven manatees that greeted us on our vacation. These creatures move slowly, they cannot outrun the fast moving boats in the open waters, it is very sad. Boaters…take caution and watch for these sweet and beautiful creatures.
I hope that you enjoy this display of love and beauty that I have captured through the lens of my camera. This was a once in a lifetime experience, and I am so thankful.
